Uzbekistan begins criminal investigation against Newmont Mining Corp.


In Ghana a Racist Newmont staff is recalled. [A] member of the Management team used inappropriate and culturally insensitive language and inappropriate behaviour in dealing with traditional leaders and with certain Newmont Ghana Gold Ltd (NGGL) employees.


[In Peru  a] farmer died from gunshot wound.
Police are examining weapons seized from a security contractor for the U.S.-owned Yanacocha gold mine and conducting gunpowder residue tests on guards after an autopsy showed a farmer killed in a protest died from a bullet to the chest.

Also on the stock market Newmont is in trouble. According the Resource Investor  also for the investors Newmont Mining Corp. is among the the Losers.

Finally, global powerhouse Newmont Mining [NYSE:NEM] left investors feeling flat after a slowdown led the company to trim its 2006 production estimates to 5.9 million to 6.2 million, down from 6.1 million to 6.25 million.
